The heat of summer is upon us. With the heat comes the summer fish patterns.

The crappie have slowed some but some are still being caught in about 10 feet of water around brush and other structure. A lot of fish are coming in from Tuckertown but the average size has definitely gone down since the spring run. Small jigs (Kalin Triple Threat, 1 1/2" Tube Jigs, Slider's) have been doing well along with minnows.

Largemouth Bass have been very active and we are seeing some really nice fish. Gary Yamamoto's senkos have been a big seller in our store lately. A great article on how to fish these baits can be found at http://www.bassresource.com/fishing_lures/senko.html . Zoom Trick worms are also catching fish. A great article about how to fish these baits is here http://fishing.about.com/od/basicfishinginstruction/a/trickworm.htm .

Catfish are being caught all over the lakes in good numbers and size. The dip baits (Catfish Charlie, Sonny's, Big Bite) are catching bunches of cats. I recently did a little test of my own comparing Sonny's dip bait against a traditional catfish bait (night crawlers). On High Rock lake I put two rods out side by side. One with the dip bait and one with the night crawler. In about 30 minutes I had caught 5 nice channel cats (3-4lbs each)on the dip bait. Nothing touched the night crawler. It definitely sold me on the dip baits.

Striped bass are being caught behind Tuckertown Dam. Several good runs have taken place in the last month. We are seeing some 15-18lb fish coming in quite often. The traditional baits are working best, Live shad, shiners, 4" shad bodies with a 1 ounce lead head, 1 ounce white bucktails.

We are also seeming some really nice Shell Crackers (bream) coming in from Tuckertown. Fish in the 1 to 1 1/2 lb size! These are some of the largest bream we have ever seen on the lake!

We are open from 5:30Am to 9:00Pm Monday thru Saturday and 5:30Am to 7:00Pm on Sunday. But if you come by after hours check out our new bait vending machine. You can purchase live small minnows, night crawlers, red worms, Catfish Dip baits and some basic tackle any time.

We look forward to seeing you soon. The yard work will wait, come on out and enjoy a day or several days on the lake.
