Fall is finally here and the fish are biting!! Crappies are being caught in good numbers on all the Yadkin lakes. Most seem to be catching them about 4 to 8 feet deep around structure with minnows, jigs and the Berkley "Crappie Nibbles". The crappie nibbles have been around for a while but had not caught on until now. I tried them a while back and they really work well.
Largemouth are being caught on buzz baits, jigs, and plastic baits. They are being caught in shallow water. Flipping the Green Pumpkin Rattle Back jig around bank structure is catching good fish.
Stripers are being caught on Badin Lake and behind High Rock dam and Tuckertown dam. A lot of Stripers are coming in from behind Tuckertown dam (Badin side) but larger fish seem to be coming from behind High Rock dam (Tuckertown side). The number one bait is a 4" pearl color plastic shad made by Gotcha with a 1 ounce jig head. White bucktails are also catching fish.
Catfish have don't seem to be biting as well as they were last month but some fish are still being caught on shad and many of the popular tub baits such as "Sonny's" and "Catfish Charlie".
I don't usually do a saltwater report but I have had a lot of customers coming in reporting good catches of spots, Drum, and whiting along the N.C. coast. Spots are being caught all along the coast. "Fishbites Bloodworm Alternative" appears to be the number 1 choice for spots now. Whiting are hiting fresh shrimp. We carry the "Fishbites" baits, rigs, rods and reels and other saltwater tackle. Check us before you head to the coast for great buys on all your saltwater tackle.
Remember a bad day fishing beats a good day......... well you know the rest!
